Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show 9-10.2.2009

The rules to enter this show:
All entries for Best of Breed/Variety are limited to AKC Champions of Record or must have obtained its AKC Championship, according to the owner's records, prior to entering this show.

INVITATIONS TO PRE-ENTER: As in the past, the Top Five dogs (AKC Champions) in breed standings for the period January 1, 2008 - October 31, 2008 (inclusive) are invited to pre-enter in advance of the regular closing date.

SUBMISSION DATES FOR ALL ENTRIES: Once the Top 5 list and the eligible Juniors list is posted on the Westminster and InfoDog websites, or beginning November 17, 2008, Best of Breed/Variety entries (both invited and non-invited) and Junior Showmanship entries may be sent via any traditional postal service that will deliver to a P.O. Box and does not require a signature for delivery or through infodog.com at any time to be received no later than 3 PM (ET) Friday, December 5, 2008.

The benching of dogs is an integral part of the dog show, the importance of which cannot be overstated. Dogs are received only at the exhibitors' entrance at 33rd St. & Pennsylvania Plaza between 7th and 8th Avenues, beginning at 6 AM each day. Dogs must arrive by 11:30 AM on the day they are judged. Dogs arriving after that time will not be admitted. All dogs must be removed from the benches by 11:30 PM. Tuesday evening to the designated holding area. Breeds to be judged on Tuesday will not be admitted until 9 p.m. Monday evening.

Dogs and equipment cannot be removed from the show either day before 8 p.m. All dogs must be removed from Madison Square Garden by midnight Tuesday. There will be separate areas for grooming or crates. Stacking of crates on breed benching will not be permitted, except in the case of Toy Breeds. Crates will not be permitted in any aisle, at any ring or on any floor space. All crates must be on the benching or in grooming area. Tack units must be on the bench.

By entering this show, all participants agree to the following: All rights to advertise, promote, publicize, televise or otherwise exploit the show are vested in The Westminster Kennel Club and its assigns, including the use of the names, likenesses, voices or biographical matter of all dogs, owners, handlers, and kennels participating in the show. Madison Square Garden prohibits the use of video recording devices at this show.

How very sad that the entry was so poor. One would have thought that in a country where the breed is so popular and where there were many dogs actually qualified to compete, it would have been a lot better than that. The breed entry numbers at Finnish shows alone surpasses the Westminster show many times yet the size of the USA is much bigger than Finland and likewise the numbers of Silkys in USA is many many times greater than Finland.

I am told that there were only 6 out of 9 entered who actually turned up. Surely this must say something about the judge not the breed !!! and very disappointing for all the supporters who turned up to see the breed in the ring.

At least we have an entry of 28 at Crufts !

NO surprises, since everybody knew the results before the show and it can be read from the results also. Only five silkys show up. Some of the TOP Silky Terriers in our country (US) were absent or didn't even enter in this show.

Where are all the beautiful USA silkies these days?
Well, no wonder if people can know the winners already few
weeks before the shows?
It is also very sad because this means that the
quality dogs will stay at homes, and people can see this on entries.
It is not good image for one of the biggest show in the world.

Virginia, it looks that Crufts is the biggest now on if all races
have shuch a big entries as silkies there in England and Crufts .England is lovely country, have a nice show and sweet lovely people, so why not choose the quality as Cruft. We all know
why it is so famous these days to take part of the show Cruft

I can´t wait Crufts.

No, ei tosin ole mitaan mielta lahtea tuhlaamaan aikaa, energiaa ja rahaa jos tulokset on tiedossa jo viikkoja ennen. Ikava vaan on etta tuollainen vie laadukkaat koirat pois kehista ja ilmoittautumiset jaa minimiin, ja
niistakin vahista viela useat poissa. Harmillista.
Kuten Virginia tuolla kirjoittaa USAssa silkkeja on monin kertanen maara suomalaisiin nahden, silti suomalaisissa kehissa silkkeja on useita kymmenia jokaisessa perahinkkalan nurkkanayttelyissakin.

Myos Crufts on vetanyt silkkeja kehaan kuin magneetti ja sehan on vaan hieno asia se. Hieno maa, hieno nayttely ja hienot ihmiset.
Ei meinaa jaksaa odottaa .


Toivottavasti Westminster pesee kasvonsa ja saadaan taas jonain paivana nauttia runsain maarin kauneista silkeista.

I'm totally sure that everyone knew who the winner was before the show, since all the beautiful silkies did stay home! And that is soo sad !!

I wish you all good luck in crufts, I would LOVE to come too.. But NEXT YEAR we will come! Hehe

The entries for Crufts this year are good again, as they always appear to be, it would seem that it is fast becoming the biggest dog show now for our breed, with so much hype surrounding it, but to be honest with you guys I'm not too sure what the big thing is about Crufts, don't get me wrong it is fun and great to catch up with your friends, but i will never understand why it appears so attractive to people from all over the world, especially in our breed, when essentially it is just another 'UK Champ Show', there isn't any CC's on offer or titles to be won, and you don't even appear on the TV anymore. So just what is the big thing about Crufts, why do people end up spending so much money to go to it. For me the best part of Crufts is not the showing, it is actually doing the Discover Dogs, which we do every year, along with a small number of enthusiastic Members of the Silky Club of Great Britain. At Crufts, every breed is represented at Discover Dogs, they each have there own stand, where there is a large open top dog pen, that you sit in with your dogs, and the stall is all decorated, to reflect your breed, for example on our stand, which may I say is expertly decorated by Lisa Welch, we have the Australian flag, and also lots of beautiful photos of Silkies, doing agility, showing, relaxed, pictures of puppies, etc, all fun pictures, that show our beautiful breed in it's true light. The idea of Discover Dogs, is to educated members of the general public about our beautiful breed, so that prespective dog owners can find out what breed would be best suited to their life style, and also making people aware of the existance of our very wonderful breed. It is very hard work especially as you are constantly having to correct people when they say ' oh look it's Yorkies', and it is very tiring for you and the dogs,as sometimes you can be there all day, but it is very rewarding and very worth doing, to be able to share with people the pure joy of our wonderful breed. That to me is so much more important and enjoyable than the breed ring showing, especiallly nowadays when people go to such great lengths to win, win, win, and again I ask you for what exactly
