This summer I have noticed a real difference in my Silkies coats, I don't know whether it is due to the wet cold summer that we have had, but their coats appear to be a lot dryer than usual.
I have kept on top of the trimming which seems to be keeping it at bay, but i have noticed an increase in the number of split ends I keep finding on their coats.
I decided to take the plunge and remove nearly quarter of an inch from the ends of the coats to remove any damaged ends, but not all of them I have managed to get. Does anyone have a good method of trimming these, without taking too much length off the coat, short of sitting there for a week none stop and taking of the very ends of each strand of hair that is split, I don't know how else to do it!!!!! I treat their hair as I would my own hair, as it is so like human hair, so if you have split ends you should remove them before the damage goes further up the strand of hair.
I have never had this before with the coats and I always condition them on a daily basis to keep the hair norished and to stop it from becoming too dry, I can only think that this has some relation with the weather, has anyone else experienced this, this year? Even my own hair is dryer than normal!
If anyone has any helpful tips on this I would be very grateful.
