I thought this might be of interest to those showing in England and that area. Animal rights groups are very active in Europe and it appears they may be making life for breeders even worse by twisting a documentary to fit their needs. Thank you for posting that Linda, it is really quite alarming but the majority of the people that watch documentary's such as this, are a little bit dim at the best of times, they don't have much else to do with their time, and unfortunately will believe such things as this

I do hope that the BBC is inpartial in its views and that the worries of the English Kennel Club do not come to frutition, but sadly i have a terrible feeling that this won't be the case how terribly cruel for them to do something like this to the dog fraternity, giving purebreds a bad name and breeders even more so, it really is unfair and unacceptable, when you think of the hard work that people put into dog breeding It is even more unfair of the BBC when they go to such great lengths to cover the whole of Crufts when it is on, thereby promoting the world of dogs, showing, breeding etc my how the tables have turned now.

A big pat on the back to the English Kennel Club for making a stand on this issue and for remaining positive and solid they really do have the right attitude and outlook and breeders best interests at heart :applause2:

It is true that there are numerous "exaggerated" breeds that have what we would decsribe in our own breed (AST's) terrible faults affecting, health, mobility etc. and I suspect though I have no evidence to support this, that perhaps the programme is aimed at those breeds, to take one example the "great British" Bulldog, and breeds that have inherent breathing and other serious problems rather than at ALL Pure Breeds.
We are so lucky that our breed has so relatively few health problems, and long may it stay that way.
I agree though that if a programme is implied as being about and referring to ALL Pure Bred dogs then it is very very misleading to drag in all Pure bred dogs by implication. The repercussions go far beyond the Kennel Club in the UK. Any programme made that is sensational will inevitably be sold worldwide.
I suppose we shall have to wait and see what happens.

The programme will be aired on 19/08/08 at 9pm on BBC1 and you will be able to see on bbc iplayer for one week afterwards.

If it does focus on the negative side of pedigree dog lets hope the kennel club look some where else for next years Crufts coverage!
